To continue with Brian's translation: the acoustic effects aren't readily measurable until 2º (red line.) This works out to about 3/8 per foot of runout as a maximum allowable figure for good quality stock, or about 3/4 over the length of a typical guitar soundboard.

 

According to an article by Martin Schleske (Catgut Acoust. So. J. Vol. 1, No. 6, Series II, November 1990) the acoustic effects of grain runout aren't measurable until 2º.  Below Brian Burns translates:  grain runout of only 1º (the blue line) causes the grain to exit at about 1/3 the length of a top that is 4mm (.160" ) thick.
